On Sunday, June 16, Peace Boat’s ship, the MV Pacific World, will visit New York City during the month of celebration for the United Nations World Oceans Day, highlighting the 2024 theme of “Awaken New Depths.” Peace Boat will host a special event in partnership with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and partners working to find innovative solutions to accelerate ocean and climate action. This event will showcase the importance of blue innovation and partnerships for transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies as we work towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Featuring speeches from various partners, live music, exhibits, and performances, the event will bring together hundreds of representatives from the diplomatic community, the United Nations, foundations and private sectors, with a particular focus on blue ocean industry technology, sharing best practices for responsible ocean stewardship.

The event will also highlight the outcomes of the SIDS4 International Conference for a sustainable blue economy as we work towards the Summit of the Future in September with United Nations partners and civil society, united for positive change. Peace Boat will  present the  upcoming “Youth for the SDGs” scholarship program, an officially endorsed ‘Contribution’ to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development  by IOC UNESCO, and will also present the Ecoship, an environmentally sustainable passenger ship, working towards decarbonization of the maritime sector and innovative solutions for a sustainable blue economy.
