program for the UN Ocean Decade: 2024 Mexico – Vancouver – Alaska
June 25 – July 20, 2024

Peace Boat US is excited to announce our next Youth for the SDGs Voyage, June 25 to July 20, 2024, as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

The voyage will take place onboard Peace Boat’s 117th Global Voyage, visiting Manzanillo (Colima, Mexico), Vancouver (BC, Canada), Ketchikan (Alaska, US) and Seward (Alaska, US).

Our Youth for the SDGs Program is endorsed by IOC UNESCO as a contributor to the UN Ocean Decade.

Itinerary

  • June 26 – Blue Innovation welcome dinner
  • June 27 – Mangrove Biodiversity and Turtle Conservation Study Program
  • June 28 – Field Excursion to study natural landscapes in Pena Blanca, El Naranjo
  • June 29 – Coral Reef Study Program – Korallysis in Tenacatita
  • June 30 – Juluapan Lagoon Oyster Study Program with local fishermen
  • July 1 – Peace Boat arrives to Manzanillo, Onboard Event and UN Ocean Decade program onboard for Blue Innovation
  • July 8 – Program with Ocean Wise at the Pacific Sciences Enterprise Centre, Kelp Nursery visit, Plastic lab study program, Shoreline clean-up and Blue Innovation networking eventĀ  in Vancouver, Canada
  • July 10 – Wildlife Observation Program, Whale and Fauna Study
  • July 16 – Exchange with Youth in Seward, Alaska and Ukrainian Youth Ambassadors
  • July 17 – Biodiversity study program and whale observation in the the Alaskan Fjords
  • July 18 – Final Reporting day and program closing

Details

  • Fee – $5000. The fee includes travel onboard the Peace Boat, onboard programs, shared cabin accommodation (additional fee for single cabin if available), meals during the program, and port programs. This fee does not include travel to/from the ship, travel insurance, and other incidentals.
  • All ages and backgrounds welcome to participate.
  • Scholarships are available for ages 18-30.
  • Registration and scholarship application deadline is May 15, 2024.
