The Peace Boat arrived to Honolulu, Hawaii as the final port of the 114th Global Voyage on July 10, 2023. Peace Boat’s Founder and Director, Yoshioka Tatsuya, spoke at an important event at the Aloha Tower, together with our partners Henk Rogers, Founder of Blue Planet Alliance and Keone Kealoha, Director of Kanu Hawaii. The event included a presentation about the youth programs for the UN Sustainable Development Goals by Peace Boat US Director, Emilie McGlone.
We ask the community to join us in celebrating Peace Boat’s arrival to Hawaii and the signing of the ‘Pledge to Our Keiki’, signaling a new commitment to Sustainable Tourism.
The pledge — a commitment from the passengers to honor Hawaii’s sacred land, environment, and children (“keiki”) — signals the beginning of a new era of sustainable tourism that could be a replicable model for the rest of the world.
The “Pledge to Our Keiki” signing ceremony was held yesterday organized in collaboration with Peace Boat and nonprofits Kanu Hawaii and Blue Planet Alliance, with additional support from the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Oahu Visitors Bureau, Hawaii Tourism Japan, Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association, Alaska Airlines, the state’s Department of Education, and other local nonprofits. The pledge is to promote mutual respect between host and visitors in what can often be tourism’s delicate dance: allowing tourists to enjoy a host country but without upsetting the natural environment or its residents.
Peace Boat invites the public to join us Thursday, July 12th for an afternoon at the Parley Air Station from 2- 5 pm!
