The summer of 2024 marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Peace Boat US as we welcome a dynamic and diverse group of interns. Peace Boat US Youth Coordinator, Molly Rosaaen, is leading this cohort of passionate individuals who are ready to contribute their unique talents and perspectives to our mission of promoting peace and sustainability. Let’s get to know them!
Sophia Cone
Sophia Cone is entering her junior year at Middlebury College, majoring in Latin American Studies. Her academic journey has fueled her passion for addressing climate change and its impact on various communities. Sophia resonates with SDGs #11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and #13, Climate Action. In her free time, she enjoys running half marathons with friends. At Peace Boat, she looks forward to deepening her understanding of international climate issues and contributing to global solutions.
Tierra Sydnor
Tierra Sydnor is an incoming master’s student at New York University’s Institute of French Studies. Her thesis explores institutional justice within francophone countries and its effects on citizens’ health and well-being, aligning her interests with SDGs #3, Good Health and Well-Being, and #16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Tierra is an avid reader and enjoys cooking in her spare time. She is eager to engage with climate issues on an international stage through her internship at Peace Boat.
Lidia Diaz
Lidia Diaz is an award-winning impact entrepreneur, poet, and the founder of Plant Powered, a pioneering plant-based protein alternative company in the Caribbean. Currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at NYU, Lidia is working on an opera about ocean conservation. Her literary work addresses critical social and environmental issues, and her dedication to sustainable economic growth has been recognized by organizations like Forbes and the Cartier Women’s Initiative. An avid adventurer, Lidia is also the first woman to bike around the Dominican Republic. She brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Peace Boat team.
Ashton Guss
Ashton Guss is entering her senior year at the University of Miami, majoring in International Studies with minors in Spanish, History, and Communications. She is the head of the Women’s Club Soccer Team and a member of Alpha Delta Pi and the Sociology and Criminology Club. Ashton advocates for SDGs #8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and #11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. In her free time, she enjoys running and spending time with friends and family. Ashton is excited to join the Peace Boat US team and engage in meaningful cultural exchanges.
Molly Rosaaen
Last but not least, meet our Intern Coordinator, Molly Rosaaen. Molly began her journey with Peace Boat US as an intern and has since taken on the role of Youth Programs Coordinator, which includes overseeing the internship program. A recent graduate from Pace University with a double major in Political Science and Gender Studies, Molly is deeply passionate about nuclear disarmament. She advocates for creating spaces where people can understand nuclear weapons’ environmental and humanitarian impacts. Her favorite Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are #13, Climate Action, and #16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Molly believes that climate justice can be achieved by ensuring everyone has a voice in the movement.
Our 2024 Internship has officially begun, and we are thrilled to have such a talented and supportive team on board.
