Latin America Voyage
June 20 – July 5, 2023

The Latin America Voyage intivted 13 youth activists from 10 countries onboard Peace Boat for an experiential learning experience focusing on ocean and climate issues in Latin America. The aim is for participants to deepen their understanding of ocean and climate issues in Panama, Mexico, Guatemala, and Mexico, strengthen their networks, learn from each other, and return to their home communities with stronger capacity and better understanding of ocean and climate issues that enable them to become stronger advocates. Itinerary

June 20 – Program starts in Panama City, Panama
June 21 – UNEP visit and program & homestay with Embera Quera indigenous community
June 22 – Study program: Nature-based solutions with the Kuna and Embera Indigenous Communities
June 23 – Learning about renewable energy with the Center for Sustainability and Excellence
June 24 – Ministry of Energy meeting, Peace Boat arrives Cristobal, Panama & Embarkation
June 25 – Peace Boat sails through the Panama Canal & exchange program onboard
June 28 – Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala: Cultural exchange with Mayan Indigenous Community
June 29 – Mangrove reforestation for climate action
July 2 – Manzanillo, Mexico & Disembarkation
July 3-4 – Blue Economy Forum in Manzanillo, Mexico
July 5 – Program Conclusion
