Peace Boat, an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations and in partnership with the UN SDG Action Campaign, has carried out global educational and advocacy voyages for peace and sustainability since 1983. Peace Boat is a core member of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Peace Boat is now developing the Ecoship, enabling the reduction of CO2 emissions by 40%, achieving zero SOx and NOx emissions, and recycling 100% of its water and waste. Our current ship, the Ocean Dream, will visit New York on June 7-8, 2019 (Fri-Sat) as part of its 101st Global Voyage, coinciding with World Oceans Day.
June 8 was designated by the United Nations as “World Oceans Day” to raise global awareness of the benefits derived from the oceans and the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans, and to emphasize our individual and collective duty to interact with oceans in a sustainable manner so as to meet current needs without compromising those of future generations. This year’s theme “Gender and the Ocean” is an opportunity to explore the gender dimension of humankind’s relationship with the ocean.
Peace Boat will co-host the reception on World Oceans Day following the United Nations official celebration.
