Peace Boat is an international NGO that works to promote a culture of peace and sustainability around the world by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism, advocacy and cooperation, primarily through voyages carried out onboard its passenger ship, the Pacific World. The programs enable participants to learn first-hand about global issues such as ocean conservation, environmental degradation, gender equality, and other issues.

Detailed program of events

This January, Peace Boat will visit Chile as a part of its 122nd Global Voyage, carrying out a series of ocean literacy programs in Valparaiso from January 24-26 to promote ocean conservation within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and celebrate the BBNJ Treaty to protect Marine Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction, coming into fruition on January 17.  The ship will then sail towards Patagonia and arrive at the port of Punta Arenas on January 31. This is the third voyage to Chile and Argentina with this current ship, carrying 2,000 passengers on board. Its journey began in Japan in December 2025 and is traveling primarily around the Southern Hemisphere, visiting 21 ports in 14 countries.

As the ship is docked in Valparaíso, Peace Boat is excited to host a Blue Innovation Reception, celebrating the city’s nomination as Secretariat of the High Seas Treaty, also known as the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) agreement, because of its leadership, commitment to marine conservation and the strategic location of Valparaiso. Chile was one of the first countries to sign and ratify the treaty, which aligns with its ocean policy and foreign policy initiatives on ocean affairs.

During the programs in Valparaíso and Punta Arenas, the “Youth for the SDGs” alumni  will carry out a series of activities in collaboration with international and local organizations, coastal communities and government authorities to promote innovative solutions towards sustainability and ocean protection. These will include beach clean-up projects, educational workshops on the importance of oceans and marine life, studies on climate change and the impact on the region’s glaciers, presentations by environmental leaders and other initiatives to promote action in ocean conservation. The “Youth for the SDGs” Program brings together students between 18 and 30 years old from different countries for immersive educational programs onboard. Also participating in this group as a special guest speaker is Luis Miranda, environmentalist and National Park Guide in Torres del Paine to share educational lectures about the flora and fauna of the Patagonian region.

Peace Boat invites the media and the community at large to join this initiative through participating in the activities planned in the ports of Valparaíso and Punta Arenas. Together we can make a difference and work for a sustainable future in harmony with our ocean.

Furthermore, Peace Boat has established a strong commitment to the protection and preservation of the ocean. With its passenger ship acting as a floating learning center, Peace Boat seeks to raise awareness about the challenges facing our oceans and encourage concrete actions for their conservation through immersive programs and ambitious projects such as the “Peace Boat Ecoship,” a passenger ship that promises to be the most sustainable, powered by renewable energy including solar and wind.
