Youth for the SDGs
Patagonia Voyage
January 20 – February 10, 2024
Seven youth scholar-activists completed the Youth for the SDGs Patagonia Voyage, held onboard Peace Boat January 20 – February 10, 2024, sailing from Chile to Argentina and visiting Patagonia. The Patagonia Voyage was held as a contribution to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Jan 20 – Voyage orientation
Jan 21 – Program starts in Santiago, Chile
Jan 22 – Study session with Fundacion Chile and Youth for SDGs scholars
Jan 23 – Meeting with Director of National Institute of Youth (INJUV) and info session
Jan 24 – Visit to Cultural Center in Valparaiso
Jan 25 – UN Ocean Decade program with University of Valparaiso, followed by Blue Innovation Reception onboard with Fundacion Chile, CEPAL, Patagonia Azul Foundation, INJUV, and Sustainable Ocean Alliance Chile and NGO leaders
Jan 26 – Arrival in Punta Arenas to learn about Patagonia culture
Jan 27 – Youth exchange in Puerto Natales with local artists and park guides
Jan 28 – Exploration of flora and fauna of Torres del Paine National Park, waterfall eco-hiking
Jan 29 – Study impacts of climate change, water testing, visit Glacier Grey
Jan 30 – Fauna observation including Condor andino, pumas, guanacos, flamingos and Nandu (all endemic to Patagonia)
Jan 31 – Learning about biodiversity of Isla Madalena and Magallanic Penguin colony
Feb 1 – Introduction lecture onboard, sailing from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia onboard Peace Boat
Feb 2 – Eco-hiking to Martial Glacier and study program with NGO partners for Day of the Wetlands in Ushuaia
Feb 3 – 6 Study programs, wellness workshops for the Blue Mind and focus on UN Ocean Decade onboard Peace Boat
Feb 7 – NGO partnership event with Eco House, Bio Feria and Bio Guia in Buenos Aires Argentina, visit to Natural Reserve
Feb 8 – Waterway study program in Rio Tigre Delta, learn about Blue Economy and maritime transportation
Feb 9 – Study program at Botanical Garden and Eco Park, Buenos Aires
Feb 10 – Program closing day and reflection, reporting for UN Ocean Decade
