Intern or Volunteer
Peace Boat US offers a unique opportunity to gain meaningful experience in the civil society and non-profit world, working in advocacy, youth engagement, sustainability, and international partnerships.
We welcome passionate students and young professionals from any background who share our mission – ocean conservation, climate action, disarmament, and youth engagement.
The Intern role may include:
- Attend a wide range of conferences and events at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, accessible through Peace Boat’s accreditation with UN ECOSOC. Representing Peace Boat US, interns contribute to program content, network, and report on the experience.
- Attend meetings and events at the Peace Boat US office and other locations, engaging with partners and organizations working on shared issues like ocean and climate sustainability and disarmament.
- Support implementation of the SDGs through social media communication, project and event planning, reporting, graphic design, photo/video, and other roles. Key events include COP, Climate Week NYC, UN World Oceans Day, and disarmament related conferences.
- Support events held onboard Peace Boat during visits to NYC twice per year.
- Support Peace Boat US administrative functions.
- Participate in our Youth for the SDGs programs that take place onboard Peace Boat voyages one or two times per year (optional).
Qualities and experience we’re looking for:
- Organized, punctual, responsible, professional, and a willingness to learn
- Social media communications
- Graphic design – especially Canva
- Writing – especially program and event reports and website articles
- Photography, videography
- Multilingual, especially Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean
- Project planning and administrative roles
Internship Conditions
- 10-15 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours for events, projects, etc.
- Working hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 11 am – 5 pm ET, with some flexibility for events and other activities that occur outside of these times
- Based at our office in NYC, remote, or hybrid
- Internships are unpaid
Internship Terms
- Summer Term: June-August – application deadline May 1.
- Fall Term: September-December – application deadline August 1.
- Winter/Spring Term: January/February-May – application deadline December 1.

Volunteer
If you wish to help on an event or project basis, volunteering may be the best fit. Volunteers are especially needed when the Peace Boat visits NYC or during events.
Whether you would like to support an event, work on a specific project (e.g. nuclear abolition), have a particular skill set to offer, or would just like to get involved, please contact us for more information!
