DESCRIPTION:In the port of Cristobal\, Panama on Thursday\, June 18 \nPeace Boat is an international NGO established in 1983 which carries out global voyages for peace and sustainability on the large Panama-flagged passenger ship Pacific World\, visiting 100 ports of call each year\, including several calls to Panama annually. Peace Boat holds Special Consultative Status with United Nations ECOSOC\, and as a committed campaigner for the UN Sustainable Development Goals\, travels the world to promote the United Nations 2030 Agenda with nearly 2000 participants onboard each voyage. \n \nAs part of the 123rd Global Voyage\, Peace Boat will next visit the port of Cristobal on Thursday June 18. During this visit the organization will carry out various activities both touristic and educational\, including programs to promote a sustainable blue economy and nature-based solutions within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. \nOn the evening of June 18\, Peace Boat will host a special “Blue Innovation Reception” onboard our ship. This event will showcase the partnerships for an inclusive blue economy. Featuring keynote speeches\, panel discussions\, and performances\, the event will bring together representatives from the diplomatic community\, the United Nations\, foundations and the private sector\, sharing best practices for responsible ocean stewardship with a focus on learning from the Nature Pledge of Panama. Peace Boat will also present its “Youth for the SDGs” scholarship program\, held in collaboration with Blue Planet Alliance\, now an officially endorsed ‘Contribution’ to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development by IOC UNESCO\, and Ecoship\, an environmentally sustainable passenger ship\, working towards decarbonization of the maritime sector and innovative solutions for a sustainable blue economy. \n*Attendance is by special invitation only

DESCRIPTION:Peace Boat will return to New York City on June 29-30\, 2025. While docked in Manhattan on June 29\, an invitation-only event “Time for Peace: For Future Generations” will be held onboard in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). \nThis event will consider the consequences of past uses of nuclear weapons\, present efforts led by civil society\, diplomats and multilateral organisations to eradicate these threats\, and the future we strive to create together. Several panels will be held including first-hand testimony of nuclear weapons\, as well as perspectives from youth and other experts and artistic contributions to raise awareness about peace. Event participants will be invited to also view the outreach edition of the Nobel Peace Center’s Nobel Peace Prize Exhibition “A Message to Humanity” exhibition currently onboard the Peace Boat’s vessel\, featuring many of the powerful and moving exhibits of Nihon Hidankyo’s work that are on display in Oslo\, including photographs by Magnum photographer Antoine d’Agata. This will be followed by a networking reception also onboard the ship. \nThis event is by invitation only. DESCRIPTION:Three years after the start of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)\, the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference will bring together the Ocean Decade community and partners to celebrate achievements and set joint priorities for the future of the Decade. It will take place on 10-12 April 2024 in Barcelona\, Spain. \nThe Youth for SDGs program which was launched last year and has taken place onboard Peace Boat’s voyages in the Arctic\, Central America and South America\, was recognized by UNESCO as an endorsed contribution to the UN Ocean Decade. \nPeace Boat will hold an official sattelite event at the conference in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA) on the topic of youth capacity building and collaboration with the title “Scaling up global ocean action and innovation through intergenerational collaboration to bridge science gaps – Knowledge sharing with SIDS\, LDCs\, ECOPs and youth”.  The goal of this session is to create dialogue and knowledge sharing across generations\, organizational schemes\, and geographies to celebrate the achievements and reflect on the challenges surrounding Ocean Decade Actions. DESCRIPTION:This event for the SDG Summit focused on SDG14 and SDG17 will showcase the important role of youth in scaling up ocean action\, in particular youth from Small Island Developing States on the front lines of the ocean crisis. Stocktaking successes and challenges\, it will also look towards further developments and collaborations for empowerment and engagement of youth with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Peace Boat is a committed campaigner for the UN SDGs and organises global voyages for peace and sustainability on a large passenger ship with the UN SDGs logo on the hull. The ship is a venue for capacity building and awareness raising with many programs held onboard. At the 2017 UN Ocean Conference\, Peace Boat launched the Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador Programme in collaboration with the Alliance of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS) for youth leaders from states on the front line of climate change and marine degradation. Since 2016\, Peace Boat has held the Youth for SDGs program onboard in collaboration with Peace Boat US. This year\, a programme was launched focused on SDG14 as an endorsed activity of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Youth travel onboard Peace Boat’s ship to engage in capacity building and awareness raising through public engagement\, meeting with government and civil society representatives. The programmes are carried out through partnerships with local and national governments\, academia and civil society organizations to promote the implementation of SDG14. Each time\, participants with diverse backgrounds in science\, public policy\, the arts\, grassroots and international activism share their skills and experiences\, as well as the diverse situations in their own countries. The event will explore collaborations and partnerships across governments\, civil society and academia. It will highlight why it is important to develop youth scientific knowledge of the ocean crisis\, and highlight how youth can contribute to public engagement\, education and awareness raising amongst the general public. This year’s World Environment Day’s campaign slogan is “Only One Earth”\, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.\n\nAbout World Oceans Day (June 8th)\n\n​​This year’s United Nations World Oceans Day\, on 8 June 2022\, will highlight the theme Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean. The ocean connects\, sustains\, and supports us all. Yet its health is at a tipping point and so is the well-being of all that depends on it. As the past years have shown us\, we need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that no longer depletes its bounty but instead restores its vibrancy and brings it new life. DESCRIPTION:Peace Boat is a Japan-based international NGO which promotes peace\, human rights\, and sustainability. Established in 1983\, it holds Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN).\n\nPeace Boat carries out its main activities through a passenger ship that travels the world. Working in partnership with UN SDG Action Campaign\, Peace Boat’s activities onboard and in port empower participants\, strengthen local capacity for sustainability\, and build people-to-people cooperation beyond borders. The voyages\, run on a social business model\, blend sustainable tourism\, lifelong learning and friendship activities with educational programmes\, cooperative projects\, and advocacy.\n\nWe’ll meet the Emilie McGlone\, Director of Peace Boat US and learn about the UN World Ocean Week and Peace Boat programs. SUMMARY:HUMANITARIAN AID FOR UKRAINE: REPORT FROM PBV TEAM IN ROMANIA – 3/29
DESCRIPTION:It is now one month since the Russian military invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Already\, more than 3.5 million people (90% of whom are women and children) have had to flee from their homes to other countries as refugees\, and it is estimated that a further 6.5 million people have been displaced within Ukraine. This total of 10 million people represents close to one quarter of Ukraine’s population\, and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis is now being faced. \nThe Peace Boat Disaster Relief Centre (PBV) has begun support activities for the affected populations\, working in coordination with our partner in Romania\, the Peace Action\, Training and Research Institute of Romania (PATRIR) who have been active in humanitarian aid since immediately after the aggression began. \nA team of 3 staff members was dispatched from Japan to Romania on March 19\, and they have been confirming the needs and situation on the ground.
